Toward an Eco-social Transition: From the Age of Man to an Age of Justice

Abstract

This chapter questions the concept of the Anthropocene from an environmental justice perspective and points to alternative understandings and naming of the current era, which is characterized by an anthropogenic environmental crisis. It moreover presents the environmental humanities as a key tool that could help humans and other-than-humans transition to a more socio-environmentally just future.

Este capítulo cuestiona el concepto del Antropoceno desde la perspectiva de las humanidades ambientales e indica formas alternativas de entender y nombrar la presente era, caracterizada por una crisis medioambiental antrópica. El capítulo presenta además el campo de las humanidades ambientales como una herramienta clave que podría ayudar a los humanos y a los alter-humanos a labrar un futuro que, desde una perspectiva socio-medioambiental, podría considerarse más justo.
