This paper explores the teaching of Classical rhetoric in Jesuit colleges at their very beginning (16th century). It also discusses the reasons why the Ratio Studiorum prescribes the imitation of Cicero (Ciceronianism) as a method for achieving correctness and style in Latin composition.
