Abstract:

In this article I argue that some of the central concepts of its grammatical architecture could be perfectly well understood in a different light, thereby threatening the very foundations of the whole program. In fact, in the cases revised here (the reasons constraining the delay of operations and the origins of case-checking features), solutions which clearly depart from Chomsky's proposals seem to be preferrable for both theoretical and empirical reasons.
