Lingüística y sociolingüística en el concepto del dialecto (I y II)

Abstract

En esta exposición se intenta demostrar que las dificultades de la Lingüística -o sus renuncias a favor de criterios sociológicos o políticos- para definir los conceptos de lengua y dialecto se deben a una falta de coherencia en la aplicación del principio de inmanencia glotológica. La dicotomía lengua / dialecto, entendida en su estricto valor glotológico, tiene utilidad taxonómica, en la clasificación de las maneras de hablar en conjuntos y subconjuntos; para ello ha de valerse exclusivamente de herramientas glotológicas, que son los rasgos lingüísticos o isoglosas. Por otro lado, lengua "conjunto" / dialecto "subconjunto" también constituye un fenómeno de naturaleza sociológica: en este caso son los hablantes (no los lingüistas) quienes hacen sus clasificaciones. Ambos planos, el glotológico y el sociológico, han de ser atendidos debidamente, pero sin mezclarlos. Son particularmente interesantes los casos en que el lingüista, glotológicamente, llega a constataciones diferentes de las que el hablante, sociológicamente, obtiene.; In this paper we try to show that linguistic difficulties -or its concessions to political or sociological criteria- in order to define the concepts of language and dialect are due to a lack of coherence in the application of the principle of glottologic immanence. The dichotomy language/dialect, understood in its pure glottologic value, has a taxonomic use in the classification in the way of talking as "sets" and "subsets". That's why it has to make an exclusive use of glottologic tools, that is to say the linguistic patterns or isoglottes. On the other hand, language "set"/dialect "subset" are also a phenomenon of sociologic nature. In this case it is the speakers (not the linguistic professors), who build their own classifications. Both levels, the glottologic and the sociologic, ought to be considered with special attention, but without mixing them. The cases that are particularly interesting are the ones in which the linguist, glottologically, reaches different conclusions from the ones the speaker achieves in a sociological manner.
