Abstract:

Since Louis Duchesne advanced the idea that the remains of Priscillian could perhaps rest in the grave of the Apostle St. James, several specialists and dilettanti have signposted a number of different places that could have taken his lifeless body. The different hypothesis have been lacking in scientific rigor, so too often an enigmatic archaeological site dating from the fourth century CE, or the presence of a tomb with this chronology, are considered enough reasons to enlist those places to this honourable cause. Yet this problem has not been so far addressed with objectivity, and the few documentary references, as well as the silence of the archaeology seem insurmountable obstacles...
