ANTECEDENTES: Las psicosis engloban un conjunto de trastornos mentales devastadores e incapacitantes caracterizados por una ruptura de las funciones mentales superiores. Los objetivos del estudio fueron estudiar la relación entre síntomas clínicos, características neurocognitivas y procesos de recuperación en una muestra clínica y compararlos con un grupo de control. MÉTODO: La muestra se compuso de 22 pacientes (77.3% hombres) que habían sufrido, al menos, un episodio psicótico y 22 controles sanos. La evaluación de las características neurocognitivas se llevó a cabo a través de cuatro subtests del CANTAB®, la sintomatología clínica mediante las WSS-B y el PDI-21. Los procesos de recuperación en el grupo de pacientes fueron medidos con el STORI. RESULTADOS: Los pacientes rinden significativamente peor en todas las subtests neurocognitivos (excepto en atención/memoria visual e inteligencia general) comparados con los controles sanos. Los déficits cognitivos se mantienen estables a pesar de la fase de recuperación. Los déficits cognitivos se relacionan de forma compleja con los síntomas clínicos. CONCLUSIONES: Los déficits cognitivos están presentes durante todas las fases del trastorno, pudiendo representar un síntoma nuclear de la enfermedad.
