The material was collected in Guadeloupe in May 2012 during the ‘Karubenthos’ expedition (principal investigator Philippe Bouchet), organized jointly by the National Park of Guadeloupe, Muse´um National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) and Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC). We are also indebted to Hervé Magnin, Olivier Gros and to all the other participants of the expedition, especially Emmanuel Vassard and Line Le Gall, who collected the sample that contained the holotype. We are grateful to Philippe Bouchet for his invitation to participate in the expedition and for his input on the manuscript. This work was supported by the Service de Systématique Moléculaire (UMS 2700 CNRS-MNHN). We thank Delphine Gey (MNHN) for her assistance in the laboratory work and Lee Ann Galindo, Dario Zuccon and Nicolas Puillandre (MNHN) for their support and comments on the phylogenetic analysis. Yuri Kantor (Russian Academy of Science) helped with the SEM imaging, which was carried out at the Plateforme d’Imagerie et Microscopie Electronique (MNHN), and Catherine Rausch (MNHN) is thanked for access to the facility. We are indebted to Robert Cowie (University of Hawaii) and to Manuel Malaquias (University Museum of Bergen) for their help with the linguistic revision and for their constructive comments. The ‘Karubenthos’ expedition was carried out with funding from Fonds Européen de Développement Régional (FEDER) and Port Autonome de la Guadeloupe.
