A new 1-bit unit cell for a transmitarray lens has been designed and presented in this paper. Based on a four-layer structure consisting on two sets of two patches coupled by a slot, a new ultra-thin two-layer unit cell, based on two patches coupled by a single slot, has been designed. Hence, it is possible to reduce the weight and size of the whole antenna. Nonetheless, the 1-bit approach to the design of the unit cell introduces a certain phase error in the behavior of the lens that could limit the situations within which it could be used. A comparison with a 360-degree phase-shift unit-cell-based transmitarray is made in order to set the boundaries of use of this new planar lens. For this purpose, Far-Field(FF) and Near-Field(NF) simulations will be used. Furthermore, a new prototype of a 1-bit lens for FF is presented and measured in this contributionspa
