Abstract:
The main aim is to study how the Municipal Band of Madrid (established in 1909) was considered as a valued possibility of employment by Spanish wind musicians in the early 20th century. The most outstanding findings are: 1. The low consideration of wind players in the music industry, who needed several employments to survive at that time. 2. The close relationship between academic training and the employments of the Municipal Band of Madrid players. 3. The new role of the Municipal Band of Madrid in the leisure activities, which made possible the economic development of wind players.
