El paisaje vegetal de la Sierra del Aramo, un medio de montaña en transformación (Montaña Central de Asturias)

Abstract

La Sierra del Aramo es un cordal de la Cordillera Cantábrica situado en el extremo más septentrional de la Montaña Central Asturiana. En puridad, constituye un excelente ejemplo de montaña media oceánica, caracterizado por un mosaico de paisajes, forestal y pastoril, cárstico y silíceo, lo que unido a una intensa y secular explotación agro-silvo-pastoril, base de la economía tradicional de subsistencia, explica la singularidad de este conjunto, es decir, la rica variedad de matices y contrastes. La diversidad de formaciones vegetales y paisajes se haya en peligro por el fin de las actividades rurales tradicionales, que garantizaban no sólo la biodiversidad sino la sostenibilidad de las comunidades humanas; por la introducción de nuevos usos urbanos y la inexistencia de planes de conservación o gestión a pesar de promocionarse con la figura regional de Paisaje Protegido

Sierra del Aramo is a Cantabrian Range chord located at the far north of Central Asturian Mountains. Strictly speaking, it is an excellent example of oceanic mid-mountain, characterized by a mosaic of forest and pastoral landscapes, both karst and siliceous. The intense secular agro-forestry and pastoral exploitation of the land is the base of traditional economy of subsistence, which explains the uniqueness of this setting, its rich variety of nuances and contrasts. The variety of vegetable elements and landscape formations has been jeopardized by the end of traditional rural activities, which guaranteed not only biodiversity but also, the sustainability of human communities. Currently, the situation is the introduction of new urban uses and the lack of conservation or management planning, despite of being promoted by the goverment as Protected Landscape, an important regional figure of protection
