Abstract:
Actualmente, las unidades de reproducción asistida emplean metodologías de rutina para la evaluación y procesamiento de las muestras seminales. Sin embargo, fenómenos moleculares como la apoptosis espermática no son evaluados mediante estas técnicas, pudiendo ser parcialmente responsable de las bajas tasas de fecundación e implantación en reproducción asistida. La apoptosis hace referencia a un conjunto de alteraciones celulares morfológicas y bioquímicas que suponen la muerte de la célula. Una de estas características más estudiada durante las fases iniciales del proceso es la externalización de la fosfatidilserina a la superficie de las células, un fosfolípido de gran afinidad por la molécula Anexina-V. Considerando dicha unión como un potente marcador de apoptosis temprana, el empleo de la citometría de flujo en combinación con la técnica MACS o Separación Magnética por Columnas de Anexina, constituye una herramienta eficaz, fiable y segura para el estudio y la selección de espermatozoides no apoptóticos tras haber sido capacitados, asegurando una mejor calidad seminal y permitiendo un aumento en las tasas de embarazo conseguidas.
