Abstract:

The need for implementing supplementary strategies to prevent the potential negative effect of psychosocial hazards and manage associated risks in the workplace using a “corporate social responsibility (CSR)-inspired” approach is being increasingly debated and propagated. A CSR-inspired approach to the management of psychosocial issues at work can be characterized by five key components. To enable and further the promotion of a “CSR-inspired” approach to prevent and manage psychosocial hazards at work, this chapter analyzes the extent to which psychosocial factors are included in CSR tools and instruments. While a number of tools and instruments have been developed to promote CSR initiatives, the high number of existing standards has also led to considerable overlap resulting in dilution of practice. The chapter therefore begins with a review of key tools and instruments and then thematically analyzes these instruments to identify specific indicators in relation to psychosocial hazards.
