Abstract:

The author analyzes two historical moments specially convulsive and focuses them from political, social and economic point of view: the conquest by Alexander and the kingdoms of his successors, and the time when Ammianus Marcellinus frames the crisis of the ancient culture and society on the 4th century a.D. After an examination of the question, the author tries to draw conclusions in order to apply them to the present time in different countries of the Western culture.
