Abstract:

Place-names in Cantabria, many of them from Latin roots, must be understood from the type of language evolved in that territory; in this sense, it is clear that present largely an approach to the Asturian type. The Castilianization since the Middle Ages suffered by the Cantabrian lands since the Middle Ages explains the influence also detected of Castilian. The medieval documentation will be required reference in the study. The approach to the pre-Roman place-names presents more problems
