Resumen:
Since their discovery in 1970s, Katritzky salts have emerged as one of the most important building blocks in organic synthesis. These pyridinium salts readily generate alkyl radicals, which can undergo a variety of organic transformation reactions such as alkylation, arylation, alkenylation, alkynylation, carbonylation, sulfonylation, and borylation. The main aim of this work is to gain insight on the applications of Katritzky salts in the formation of C–C bonds in Organic Synthesis. Besides summarizing the most relevant bibliographic information on these versatile building blocks, a representative example of their usefulness in synthesis will be experimentally investigated in the laboratory. Thus, the Katritzky salt will be prepared and subsequently used in the synthesis of the calcilytic ligand NPS 2143.
