Data Documentation for the Original Research Paper (ORP) entitled: "Multi-Objective Response Surface Optimization of a centrifugal turbine
for application in Oscillating Water Column devices equipped with a Twin Turbine Configuration".

Name of data set
"CFD data of an OWC turbine optimization [DataSets]"
Name of data files in data set
Special attention should be paid to the name of the text files which contain CFD results for different variables, since they are encoded
to facilitate future data post-processing. The name of all text files follows the next structure:
"VariableName_MeasurementSection-OperatingMode-phi-DesignPoint/Geometry".
The first item is the Variable Name: "torque" or "pressure". Note that, if the variable is "pressure", the Variable Name is accompanied by
the turbine section in which it was measured: "a", "b", "c" or "d" (see figure 6 in the ORP).
The 2nd item is the turbine Operating Mode: "dm" (Direct Mode) or "rm" (Reverse Mode).
The 3rd item is the phi value. Note that, if the first number is a zero, it is considered that a decimal point would follow it, e.g.
"phi075" corresponds to phi=0.75.
The 4th item could be the number of Design Point or the Geometry. Possibles Geometries are: "geo0" (base geometry) or "geo1" (optimized
geometry).

The data set are numerical data obtained from CFD simulations carried out in the commercial software ANSYS Fluent 2023 R2.

Data processing that was performed
Each text file, after 3 header lines, contains the value obtained for the corresponding variable ("torque" or "pressure") in each
iteration of the CFD simulation carried out in ANSYS Fluent 2023 R2.
Regarding the optimization process, considering the general geometric data shared by all Design Points and by the two geometries analyzed
in detail (see figures 3 & 7 and table 1 in the ORP), the total-to-static efficiency of the turbine working in Direct Mode was calculated
for each Design Point (see equation 11 in the ORP). The optimization process was carried out entirely in ANSYS Workbench 2023 R2 (see
section 6.2 in the ORP). With these CFD results, and the specific geometric data of each Design Point (see figures 5 & 12, equations 6 & 7
and equations from 19 to 22 in the ORP), the optimization could be carried out in another working environment or following another
methodology.
Regarding the two geometries analyzed in detail ("geo0" and "geo1"), raw data contained in text files were postprocessed in MATLAB R2023b.
Once convergence was reached in the simulations, an average value calculated from the last iterations was taken as final result. With
these postprocessed CFD results, a steady analysis (see section 7.2 in the ORP) and a subsequent non-steady analysis (see section 7.3 in
the ORP) were carried out to compare the performance of the two geometries.

General geometric data shared by all Design Points and by the two geometries analyzed in detail:
. Z: Number of blades [-]
. b: Blade span [mm]
. D_m: Mean diameter of the rotor [mm]
. ω: Rotational velocity [rpm]
Specific geometric data of each Design Point:
. M_2: Meridional coordinate of the 2nd Control Point [mm]
. θ_2: Angular coordinate of the 2nd Control Point [°]
. M_3: Meridional coordinate of the 3rd Control Point [mm]
. θ_3: Angular coordinate of the 3rd Control Point [°]
. θ_4: Angular coordinate of the 4th Control Point [°]
CFD results:
. torque: Mechanical torque [N·m]
. pressure: Total pressure [Pa]
File Overview
Inside the main folder "CFD data of an OWC turbine optimization [DataSets]" you can find the spreadsheet "main_info". The first sheet of
this spreadsheet ("general_data") contains the general geometric data shared by all Design Points and by the two geometries analyzed in
detail. The second sheet ("dp_data") contains the specific geometric data of each Design Point.
Apart from this spreadsheet, two secondary folders can be found inside the main folder: "optimization_process" and "analyzed_geometries".
Inside the secondary folder "optimization_process" you can find a folder associated with each Design Point, which in turn contains two
subfolders associated with the turbine Operating Modes ("dm" and "rm"), which finally contains the text files with CFD results.
Inside the secondary folder "analyzed_geometries" you can find a folder associated with each geometry analyzed in detail ("geo0"
and "geo1"), which in turn contains two subfolders associated with the turbine Operating Modes ("dm" and "rm"). Within each of thes
subfolders you can find a sub-subfolder associated with each phi, which finally contains the text files with CFD results.
